You are looking for a small magnetic tube placed near the riverbank in Chepstow.
In May 1759 a dry dock was opened here "for the graving, caulking, repairing, and lengthening of vessels of upto 500 tons burthen" By the 1850's it was just a rubish dump and it was filled in and levelled. So charts the decline of Chepstow as a port.
With your back to the cache the space taken up by the car parking was the dry dock, going back as far as St. Ann St. To the right The Steam Packet Inn(later the salmon fishery office) and behind it a wine warehouse. To the left, The Boat Inn and more warehouses. The cache is located on the site of the packet slip, details on a plack nearby. To show what a thriving area this was, there were a dozen inns, within a stones throw of you. The area in front of the boat used to be Chepstow's tennis court...... in the 17c. Congratulations to The Rowan & Bossbob. F.T.F.
