Geocache Description:

A basic cache placed in an area that has fantastic views. This is not intended to be difficult, just a pleasant place to stop and take it all in. On more than one occasion I have seen Mad March Hares running and fighting in the field opposite the cache. As I have placed this cache here for the views, I would not recommend you search for this in the dark!! The area is quite overgrown at time of placing and may not be suitable for small children but any other time should be fine.

I discovered that during the 1930s and until the mid 1950s, the waste from Bures village such as slaughterhouse effluent and human waste was collected by the "Night Soil Man". This term was used because it was carried out at night. The Night Soil Man had a horse and cart and would transport the effluent to a site just outside the village centre. This was not unique to Bures, it would have been carried out throughout the country. The location of the refuse dump is described as "plot of land adjoining the Bures to Nayland road at Clicket Hill". Access to field by single farm gate for night soil deposit. The material would have been deposited in trenches rather than just spread across the field. This would have been the field on the right looking towards the river as you pass along the top of Clickett Hill. Today's modern sewage plant stands on the same field. Mains sewage came to the village around 1955/6. SAW A HARE AS I SET THE CACHE!!
