Geocache Description:

The NoOneGoes series of geocaches are all located at historical landmarks in the small community of Palmerston, Ontario. The postal code N0G 2P0 has been jokingly associated with "No One Goes 2 Palmerston Ontario". Hopefully these caches bring people out to see the beauty of this quiet little town I call home.

Cache is a magnetic nano

Today this is the site of a pet food mill, and for many years it was the site of a various grain mills. However its beginnings were as the L.H. Clarke Brewery. Clarke is most famous for working his way up from humble beginnings to become the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.

The Clarke Brewery took advantage of the railway and Palmerston's central location. Significant amounts of grain from western Canada came through Palmerston via Owen Sound. Clarke was smart enough to start his business where he got first pick! The brewery itself closed in 1902 after a series of fires and Clarke's growing business interests in Toronto, in fact, the Palmerston Brewery was merged with two others and grew into what is today the largest malting company in Canada.

After the brewery ceased numerous business made an attempt to use the buildings, such as woodenwares, carriages and even mushrooms. Eventually the original building was used by Watt's and then Rundle Feed Mills.

Facing back towards town; the first house on the right side of Norman Street was the house built by Clarke and his father. Further along the street on the right side was the famous Palmerston Creamery, numerous mills, and factories lined this street it's entire length. Over the years, Norman street was the major industrial centre of Palmerston.
