Peacekeepers' Wall of Honour - CCARF12 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Cache Effect: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

Located in the community of Garrison Green, formerly CFB Lincoln Park, Peacekeepers' Park includes memorial walls with the names of Canadian Forces members who have given their lives while on peacekeeping and peace support missions with the United Nations, NATO and other organizations since the end of the Second World War, as well as a statuary dedicated to Canadian peacekeepers. The statue depicts a Canadian peacekeeper giving an "Izzy" doll to a child. The "Izzy" doll is named after peacekeeper Mark Isfeld, whose mother crocheted small dolls for him to give to local children while on patrols during his peacekeeping tour. Isfeld's name is one of the names on the wall, as he was killed by a landmine in Croatia in 1994.

After finding the cache, I encourage you to take time to reflect on the names that are engraved on the memorial walls and maybe even take a stroll around the neighborhood to read the plaques that tell the stories of the peacekeepers after whom the streets in this neighborhood have been named.

There is also a playground very nearby this cache, just on the other side of the memorial walls, for the junior cachers to enjoy.

The park is always very busy on the closest Sunday to August 9th every year as people gather to observe National Peacekeepers' Day. Cache should not be sought on these days but, everyone is welcome to come and observe the ceremony.
