This cache has been archived.

kalaika101: As I can no longer easily get into Canterbury for maintenance, I'm archiving this one and freeing up the site for someone else.

Thanks for all the finds!

Geocache Description:

The cache is small and contains a log book only.  Please bring your own pen and you'll probably need tweezers or similar to get the log out.  Please only sign wth your initials to save space.
Please also try to keep the log dry and ensure that the cache is closed properly before replacing it exactly where you found it.

The location has overlooking property and lots of people passing by, so please find and replace the cache carefully!

The cache is hidden close to the river Stour and the recently rebuilt Marlowe Theatre, a short walk from Canterbury High Street.

The theatre is named after Christopher Marlowe (1564 - 1593) a poet and dramatist that was born in Canterbury.  A contemporary of Shakespeare, he became one of the foremost playwrights of the era, before being murdered in suspicious circumstances at the age of just 29.

The title for this cache is a line from one of Marlowe's most famous plays, 'Edward II'.

The Marlowe theatre in Canterbury has occupied three buildings in its lifetime.  The first was on St Margaret's Street, where the Central Picture Theatre was purchased by the City Council in 1949 and turned in to a theatre.  This building was subsequently demolished in 1981 to make way for the Marlowe Arcade shopping centre.

The City Council then purchased The Odeon Cinema in The Friars (the site that stands before you now) and converted it into Canterbury's second Marlowe Theatre.

This second building closed in 2009 to allow the entire site to be demolished and rebuilt with a larger and more modern, purpose built, theatre.  At a cost of over £23m, this third Marlowe Theatre opened on 4th October 2011 and contains a 1,200 seat main auditorium as well as a flexible secondary performance space called the Marlowe Studio.
