Geocache Description:

Z vrha imamo krasen pogled na Biograjski kanal in okolico.

From the top we have a gorgeous view of Biograjski canal and surrounding area.

Benedektinski samostan sv.
Po večkratnih beneških napadih v 12. stol. in posledično uničenju Biograda n/m, so pribegli benediktinci 1358 obnovili prvotni samostan. Cerkev so prezidali v gotskem slogu.

The first church, relational small monastery, was built by Teodorik bishop of Biograd in 1059 on the foundations of a Byzantine fortress. After repeated attacks of the Venetians in the 12th century and consequent destruction of Biograd n / m, original monastery was rebuilt in 1358. The church was rebuilt in the Gothic style and it’s adorned by a Gothic cross from the early 15th century. After reconstruction in 1358 the monastery became a center “glagolijaštva” in Dalmatia. In 1808 the monastery was discontinued, again, was launched in 1965. Today is Ćokovac only still active Benedictine monastery in Croatia.
Ćokovac name comes from the word “ćok”, which is in the local dialect name for the piece.
