Geocache Description:

A camo'd lock n' lock hidden 144'-0", bearing 123˚T. from the centre of the new Chapman Creek foot bridge. Compass required. This access is from Selma Park Rd. (P1). Alternate access is from the Chapman Creek Reservoir (P2) or the Sechelt Airport (P3).

The lowering of a 2600 lb, 55 foot bridge over Chapman Creek by helicopter June 26, 2012, marked the end of a two-year trail project that now allows users to travel between Selma Park and the Wilson Creek airport off-road. This important trail and creek crossing will ultimately serve as Sechelt’s portion of an off-road trail from ferry to ferry, which is currently being developed.

Until now, hikers and bikers would have to leave the trail system and cross Chapman Creek on the Highway 101 road bridge. This new bridge location was just screaming for a geocache, so here it is.

Do your homework before you set out... obtain a trail map and a compass first. BE PREPARED. Tell someone where you’re going and when you plan to return. Educate yourself on the hazards.... then go out and have fun!

A wee smidgeon o’ trivia:

Chapman Creek is named after Loren C. Chapman (1841-1927), sea captain and homesteader here in the early 1890s; coast trader at Welcome Pass 1895; captain of the schooner "Dolphin". Died at Bellingham.
