To canal folk "Cut End" is the end of the Cut (canal). Here you are not far from the Ashby Canal Cut End. But the restoration of the original Canal as far as the National Forest Centre Waterside at Moira continues. The Ashby Canal Association has a great deal to do with all this and you can obtain all the information and maybe a souvenir at the Association's permanent hut towards the present end of the Canal.
This is an interesting site worth exploring - peaceful for boaters and users of the towpath alike, as well as wildlife. As part of the restoration scheme a Nature Reserve has been created on the offside of the canal.
The best approach on foot is from the nearest village - Snarestone - but the towpath can be very muddy after rainfall. You have been warned! But this won't put off intrepid booted geocachers ... Or of course, come by boat.
Crossing over the last bridge will get you very close to your goal. It's often very quiet here (it's main delight) but there can be busy muggle periods, especially when there are quite a few floating ones around. A bit of cunning and patience on those occasions should see you through.
When you arrive - do enjoy the wildlife.
