Scrabble was invented during the Great Depression by an out of work architect. He studied the front page of the New York Times to calculate how often each of the letters of the English language was used. He assigned point values to each letter and then decided how many of each letter would be included in the game.
Scrabble has a lot of interesting and creative phrases used by hard core players.
