Geocache Description:

Cache is a nano: bring your own pencil.
Park in the small 6 bay car park on the Glasgort Road.

The area around you is packed full of structures from WW2 when the Mullaghmore Air Base was in use. Along with a host of other locations in North West Ireland these bases helped to monitor and defend the busy shipping routes from Canada and the US into Derry, Belfast, Glasgow, Liverpool etc.
There were training facilities as well as assembly and testing functions for kit-formed craft shipped in for assembly: some farm buildings in the area were constructed with the emptyshipping boxes which contained spare parts etc.
As is normal, there are two runways allowing for operations in most wind conditions and the one to the north of your location now forms part of the Aghadowey speedway which accommodates motor sports of various kinds. Stock car races are held during the summer months in the small arena.
