The Melancthon wind facility is Ontario’s first utility-scale wind facility. It is one of the largest wind projects in Canada, with 133 wind turbines producing 200 megawatts of power. The facility is located near Shelburne, Ontario. Phase I of the project began commercial operation in 2006, with Phase II beginning commercial operation in late 2008. The Melancthon facility has the capacity to generate 545,000 megawatt hours each year. Across the road from the cache location, you can walk right up to a wind turbine. An interesting and educational spot to bring the kids.
