Grotte di Ara

Le Grotte di Ara rappresentano il relitto di un antico sistema carsico la cui origine risale al Triassico (190 milioni di anni fa). Un luogo abitato fin dai primordi, come testimoniano i ritrovamenti di Ursus spelaeus, l'orso delle caverne estinto circa 20.000 anni fa, nonché una grande mandibola incompleta di Rinoceronte di Merk (ritrovata nel 1871). Tra le formazioni è da segnalare in particolare un grande arco naturale di oltre 8 metri di altezza.
Il parco delle grotte di Ara è un area recintata alla quale si può liberamente accedere attraverso un cancelletto di legno sempre aperto. Anche la strada che da Ara porta alle grotte è chiusa da un basso cancelletto per evitare che i cinghiali, che popolano la zona entrino a scorazzare in paese. Può essere tranquillamente attraversato accertandosi però di chiuderlo. Non si entra in aree private.
Il cache è comunque posto all'esterno del parco delle grotte, a poche decine di metri dall'ingresso, nel diedro di una roccia.
Conviene posteggiare l'auto al parcheggio indicato e poi proseguire a piedi. Si tratta di una passeggiata pianeggiante di circa 800 metri.

Ara's Caves represent the wreck of an ancient cave system whose origin dates back to the Triassic (190 million years ago). A place inhabited from the earliest times, as evidenced by the findings of Ursus spelaeus, the cave bear extinct about 20,000 years ago, a large and incomplete jaw of Rhino Merk (discovered in 1871).
Among the formations is especially worthy of a great natural arch over 8 meters in height.
The park "Caves of Ara" is a fenced area which can be freely accessed through a wooden gate always open.
Even the road that leading to the caves from Ara is closed by a low gate to prevent the boar that populate the area come to frolic in town.
It can be safely crossed, however, making sure to close it. If you walk on this path you don't
enter into any private area.
The cache is still on the outside of the park's caves, a few tens of meters from the entrance, hidden in the dihedral of a rock.
Park your the car park at designated parking and then walk. This is a flat route of about 800 meters..
