A very quick cache and dash Magnetic
Melbury Abbas is a small village mentioned in the Doomsday book. Its name relates the Abbey at Shaftesbury who owned the village until the Dissolution of Monasteries in sixteenth century. The Glynn family owned the village in the nineteenth century and this gave the hill the name “Spread Eagles” from their coat of arms. The house at the bottom of the hill was once a pub. The village now has no pubs but boasts a licensed Village Hall.
The village plagued is with traffic from Shaftesbury to Blandford Forum. There is good parking at the cache but this is best approached from the south. Do take care when emerging from the parking area.
