Geocache Description:

This cache is located in Riverside Park, the city of Lynchburg's second oldest park.  The park has a long interesting history and is currently becoming a more popular place to visit with the addition of the Splashpark (open seasonally)  For more historical perspective, visit http://www.lynchsferry.com/archives/fall-2007/the-history-of-riverside-park/exclusive-online-content-4.htm

For this cache we will be visiting one of the parks most interesting displays, the hull of the packet boat Marshall.  General Thomas J "Stonewall" Jackson died May 10, 1863 from battle wounds.  His body was transported  from Richmond to Lynchburg by train, and then from Lynchburg to Lexington via the James River aboard the packet boat Marshall.  The boat flooded and sank in 1913.  In 1936 the hull was excavated and brought to Riverside Park.

Do not climb anything, disassemble anything, or crawl under anything.  Be respectful and mindful that this is a historic display. ****congrats to JK_81 for his first FTF!!!****
