Geocache Description:

This is Pelican Point.

Judging by the number of tuxedos that frequent the large "cottages" on the way to this cache, it may as well be called Penguin Point. It is one of the newer subdivisions in the Rural Municipality of Victoria Beach.

Out here you are sure to see many pelicans, gulls, osprey, and maybe even the odd eagle. You can also get an excellent view of the sunset over the pier from here.

On the way to the cache, you will walk on some of the whitest, finest sand you'll see anywhere in the world. But thanks to careless boat owners, all the beaches at Victoria Beach are now infested with zebra mussels. Make sure to wear water shoes to protect your feet from their sharp and nasty edges.

Wading may be required, depending on the water levels.

Across the shallow channel is Hillside. The channel may be crossable, but be cautious as it might get deep quickly since the channel is regularly dredged for the marina traffic.

Please note that bikes are very much encouraged throughout the municipality, but off-road vehicles are not.

The most popular day beach is Clubhouse Beach (N 50° 41.925 W 096° 33.687). There is no campground at Victoria Beach.

In the summer months, you'll find public washrooms at N 50° 42.055 W096° 33.555 (Village Green), or N 50° 41.919 W096° 33.646 (near the Clubhouse).

Parking note: During the months of July and August, vehicle traffic is restricted at Victoria Beach. If you arrive between the last week of June and Labour Day (first weekend in September), you must park your car in the parking lot (N 50° 42.135 W 096° 33.191) and walk from there. Parking will cost you $5.50 (in 2012) for the day. So bring your family and beach gear and make a day of it. Note: All other times of the year, your vehicle is welcome to travel with you throughout the community.

Attributes listing for paperless caching: No motorized vehicles, winter-friendly, available 24 hours a day, bikes allowed but you can't get all the way to GZ with one, dogs allowed, plenty of mosquitos, not wheel chair accessible, available at all times, may require wading, may require swimming, scenic location, no public transportation available, no camping allowed, no parking in the summer months (see parking note above).

A FTF certificate will be provided to the lucky first-finder.
