Access to the fortified city was done through the open doors in the wall paintings, were protected by towers and watchtowers. Until the eighteenth century had eight gates, of which only seven are left as the Puerta del Rey next to the Cathedral, was boarded up. The two older doors are the Puerta del Sol and the Puerta de Santiago.
