Another microcache hidden by TheLuCrew. Peck's Pond is a beautiful pond in West Haverstraw to be enjoyed by the whole family!
Peck's Pond is a beautiful pond in West Haverstraw, NY. It is named for Elisha Peck, a prominent and wealthy businessman. In 1830, Elisa Peck returned from England, bringing with him the machinery for a rolling mill. He built a rollin mill along the Minisceono Creek at the present location of the bowling alley. When the mill prospered, he built a manificent Greek-revival style mansion on the hill overlooking the estate and called it SAMSONDALE, after the ship (named SAMSON) that returned him home. In 1962 the mansion was demolished and all traces of the estate have vanished into what are now the samsondale houses and shopping plaza.
This is a very busy area for walkers, runners, bikers, fisherman, and picnicers. Use stealth!
