Geocache Description:

This cache is the sequel to the nearby oldest Geocache in Ocean County, which we adopted and replaced not long before hiding this one. Please re-cover well after finding. Congrats to Team Chumly for the FTF!

My best friend and I took a day off to go hide a cache. Weather was perfect. We grew up right here in New Jersey so paying to get on the beach has been a way of life. As a result we often don't bother going at all, except when there's a cache there of course. I've wanted to plant a cache here on the anniversary of the original IBC placement ever since we adopted it, so finally we did. The other caches that I've planted so far are far less hazardous bug-wise, so it was kind of fun thinking about the two hundred bites you could be going home with if you forgot the bug spray!

This is a (hopefully) waterproof lock-and-lock container meant to store whatever. It is best accessed by path with a short jaunt through the brush. It would appear that the most direct route to the cache is over some land that has a fence between you and it. You can go around the fence where it begins, no need for climbing.

This cache originally started out with:

  • a pen and journal (please write about your experience and check in here)
  • an extra long telecommunications cord
  • a Field Guide to Atlantic Coast Fishes
  • a "Courage the dog" beanie
  • my best friend's jigsaw puzzle with the Angry Birds characters
  • a pair of metal forceps
  • a heavy duty white 6-way power coupler
  • a premium toilet flapper in the blister pack

This cache is in a state park that charges a fee per vehicle for entry. To get your money's worth, stay and enjoy the ocean, the nature trails, and the history. And know that your fee pays for a valuable state common good.

Island Beach State Park Details

The bugs in this area during the warm months are absolutely bonkers, so insect repellent is a must. Don't use some and you will regret it!

Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays, Memorial Day through Labor Day:
Park is open 7AM-Dusk and vehicle fee is $10
Monday-Friday Through Labor Day: Park is open 8AM-Dusk and vehicle fee is $6

During the Off Season: Park is open 8AM-Dusk every day and vehicle fee is $5

These rates are for New Jersey residents. The fee is doubled if your vehicle has out-of-state license plates. Thanks for helping out The Garden State!
