Geocache Description:

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States of America, and he was often referred to as "The Great Emancipator" for freeing the slaves during the Civil War.  When the Civil War was over and the Confederacy defeated, Abraham Lincoln won re-election as President promising to heal the wounds of the Civil War and re-unite the divided nation. On March 4, 1865, Lincoln gave his 2nd Inaugural Address in which he spelled out his ideas concerning the Reconstruction of the United States of America, a speech that many consider his greatest speech. A excerpt from this speech is attached to the log.

He never got the chance to try because he was assisinated on April 14, 1865. Instead of his proposed fair and equal treatment of both freed slaves and ex-Confederates, the Congress enacted harsh punitive laws against the South, while failing to live up to the promises given to the freed slaves. We will never know what Lincoln could have done to change things for the better if he had been alive to fight for his goals.

The cache is in a small pill bottle. Bring your own pen.
