Geocache Description:

Virginia's oldest cemetery overlook.

Virginia's oldest cemetery was located on the area now used by Virginia Regional Medical Center. A new cemetery was platted west of Olcott Park, and contractors were hired to move the caskets. A few contractors, less than conscientious, moved the headstones, but left the caskets in the ground to be uncovered decades later during hospital construction.

It is doubtful that too many of the patients treated today are aware of the historical nature of this location. You can find a nearby cache describing some interesting aspects of the nearby newer cemetery. If you drive into the park via one of the two entrances, it is possible to park within feet of the cache.
