Geocache Description:

Fukagawa was the sea shallow for some distance dotted with an islet the early stages of the Edo period.

In 1629, the eight fishing town was done by six persons besides the ‘Jirobei’ which obtained the reclamation permission near a permanent island, and ‘tousaemon’. The upper bridge was made into the ‘Jirobei Town’, and south was made into ‘tousaenon Town’ from inside bridge. It merged after that in 1695 and changed into Saga-cho. The name of a town is said to have been connected with geographical feature resembling the country Saga harbor in Higo.
