The posted coords take you to the beginning of the 1.2 mile Nature Loop trailhead where you will start your journey and enjoy a great hike thru maples, oaks and a grassy sloping field. To find the final you must gather some information about Coral Woods in order to find the final.

A. In 182A, historic records indicate that the Stephen H. Long Expedition visited "Wakesa", the last recorded Native American Village that existed in the area of present day Coral Woods.

B. The first European settlers, Elijah and Mary Humphrey Dunham, arrived in 183B and settled in Coral Township.

C. The Frink and Walker Stagecoach established a route along former Indian trails in the area around Coral Woods and today that same trail is roughly US Highway 2C.

D. Coral Woods represents one of only D oak groves which remain in McHenry County that contain 100 acres or more of continuous oak woodland.

Maple trees are valued for use as timber for fuel, furniture, flooring and cabinetmaking. Maple trees are also known for their source of maple sugar. How do sugar maples get water from the soil?
