Tour of the Nevada State Railroad Museum

in our disclaimer.
Welcome to the Nevada State Railroad Museum (NSRM). The cache IS NOT at the given coordinates. The coordinates take you inside the main museum building, but the cache is not there. The small camo'd cache is outside and available even when the museum is closed. Please be aware of your surroundings as there may be moving railroad equipment on the property during your visit. Also, beware of muggles (especially on summer weekends).
The true location of the cache is N 39 08.ABC W 119 46.DEF To find the coordinates of the actual location, you must tour the museum grounds and find the answers to the following questions.
Start your tour at the Jacobson Interpretive Center. This is the main building of the museum. Inside you will find exhibits and equipment that illustrate the role railroading played in the development of Nevada. One of the most unique and beautiful pieces inside is the Virginia and Truckee Railroad locomotive #22 (Inyo). The Inyo is a wood burning locomotive that was built in 1875. Still operational, the Inyo is run on special occasions like July 4th and Nevada Day. Outside the front door of the interpretive center is a plaque. On this plaque is a date. C= the last digit of the year of this date.
Next, head to the Wabuska Depot. This was the working rail depot in Wabuska, NV. When it was no longer required, it was moved to the museum grounds and acts as the depot for rides on the museum equipment. Whether riding on a steam train or a motorcar, you can purchase your tickets here. On the side of the depot is a sign with mileages to various locations including San Francisco. B= the number of tenths of a mile in that distance to San Francisco.
The sign that provided the digit for E has gone away. So you get this one for free. E=5
Go past the Jacobson building and head to N 39 08.878 W 119 46.123. You are now standing outside of the museum annex by a flagpole. The annex houses most of the operational equipment as well as the museum's restoration shop. Inside you will see the McKeen Motorcar #22. This car was delivered to Carson City in May, 1910. It was restored to its original appearance and made it's first run on it's 100th anniversary in May, 2010. It truly is a unique piece of equipment as it is the only one of its kind that is currently operational. Oh yeah, remember that flag pole? There is a date on the bottom. F= the last digit in the year of the date.
You may have noticed that the museum buildings lie within a loop of railroad track. The passenger trains and motorcars travel on this loop on most weekends throughout the summer. You can find the current operating schedule by going to the NSRM website. At the exact center of the loop is a brass marker much like a benchmark. One of the pieces of information on it is the curvature of the track. D= the smallest of the two digits in that curvature
The loop has its highest point at McKenzie Summit. The last piece of information you need is located there. A=the largest digit in the elevation posted on the summit sign.
Enjoy your time in Carson City and at the NSRM!
There is no fee to attempt this geocache, but there is a fee if you would like to go into the museum buildings or ride on any of the equipment.
No need to go into any fenced-in areas.
