The co-ordinates are for the first clue. In the way points there are co-ordinates for suitable parking for one vehicle. A short multi around a historic Welsh Church. The container is a regular click lock box with space for small swaps and TB's. *** Congratulations to SidAndBob for FirstToFind! ***
St Cadoc's church was the parish church of Llangattock-Vibon-Avel and is now run by The Friends of Friendless Churches. The earliest known date for the church is found in Bradney's History of Monmouthshire; it is 1545 being the date of appointing Sir William Ap Ievan as vicar. The tower has the reputation of being built in the 12th century, making it medieval, but there is no confirmation avalible. The old church consisted of a nave and chancel, but when it was restored by Lord Llangattock, a north aisle was added. Charles Rolls, an aviation and motoring pioneer, is buried with the rest of his family in the churchyard. Charles is best known for his collaboration with Frederick Royce, who he co-founded the Rolls-Royce car manufactering firm. Also he was the first Briton to die in a flying accident, aged 32.
Park at the co-ordinates provided in the way points. It is possible to park down at the church but there may be sheep in the field and access may be difficult in the winter. Follow the track down to the church, turning left after going over the cattle grid that has a kissing gate next to it. All other tracks to the left are private residences.
For the first clue, turn right before the lychgate and follow the wall around until you reach the metal gate. Record the numbers engraved on the wall = ABCD
Then work out the following:
N 51° 50.(B/D) B (A+C) W 002° 47.(C+A) (D-C) (B/3)
Go through the gate and into the churchyard. The co-ordinates will take you to three elaborate graves, which will provide the answers to the four questions:
What year did Georgiana Marcia pass away? 192E
What date did John Allan Rolls pass away? September 2F
What year did Charles Stewart Rolls pass away? 191G
How many letters in the 6th word of the last line on Charles's grave? H
Then work out:
N 51° HG.(F-C) (H-A) G
W 002° F (H+C). E B (E+A)
This will then lead you to the final cache. Do take time to look around the churchyard and the church if it is open.
Have fun and happy Caching!
