A GEODESIC vertex (popularly called 't' in Portugal, and 'Pinoco' in the North of Portugal) is a signal that indicates an exact cartographic position and which forms part of a network of triangles with other geodetic vertices.
High sites are chosen and insulated with line of sight to other vertices.
The Portuguese geodetic network is formed by geodetic vertices that fall into three orders of importance:
• 1st-Order 30 to 60 km (37 MI) away pyramids
• second Order cone-cylinder 20 to 30 miles away listed
• 3rd-Order cone cylinder lying 5 to 10 km
