Geocache Description:

This is the first cache in a series of 5 caches along Rt. 146 from Golconda, Il. to the camp site near the Mississippi River. You will be able to travel part of the original route that was used to move the Native Americans from their homeland in the Southeastern part of the United States to Oklahoma. These caches are placed at locations available to the public and were significant in the Trail of Tears march.

This cache is located near where the Native Americans crossed the Ohio River from Kentucky into Illinois.  It also calls attention to a mural that was done on the flood wall.  It contains an arrowhead that I made for the FTF.

The Trail of Tears in Southern Illinois

Much has been written concerning the Trail of Tears.  I would suggest doing a little research as it will add to the enjoyment of the experience.
The cache is placed near ample parking.  However, care must be taken when leaving the parking area.
