Geocache Description:

In 1941, John Steinbeck purchased the blue house(s) at 425 Eardley Avenue in Pacific Grove located at N36 36.918 W121 54.581. It was and still is actually three shacks arranged in a “shotgun” fashion from Eardley to the rear alleyway (Line Street). At the time, he was in the process of divorcing Carol Henning, his first wife, and starting a relationship with Gwyn Conger who eventually became his second wife. Although Steinbeck lived in this house only briefly, he wrote Sea of Cortez and The Forgotten Village at this location. Claiming that the house was “haunted”, John and Gywn eventually moved to New York City. At the time the cache was placed, this house was up for sale. Regardless of whether the home is occupied or not, please respect that it is private property. The cache is located on a public location near the house.

9/8/2013 Update. The cottages are now being used as vacation rentals. The rear two units have been fixed up very nicely and they are currently working on the third!
