Geocache Description:

This cache is located close to the Digswell Viaduct.

Digswell viaduct carries the East Coast Main Line between London Kings Cross and Edinburgh.

It was originally opened by Queen Victoria, but she was so frightened of its height that she refused to travel across it. The train carrying her had to stop, upon which she left the train and entered a horse drawn carriage at Hatfield to travel the length of the bridge on the ground. She then re-entered the train at the other end of the viaduct and continued her journey.

All the bricks used to construct the viaduct were made on site.
The viaduct is around 1,560 feet (475 m) long and comprises forty arches of 30 ft (9 m) span, and is 100 ft (30 m) high from ground level to trackbed.
The cache is not at the location of these co-ordinates. They will take you to start of our multi-cache.

To find this cache you have to first find the plaque on the viaduct and find the details of when the bridge was completed and when the engineer who designed the viaduct died.

Date completed = A B C D
Date Joseph Cubitt died = E F G H

Then calculate the following to determine the co-ordinates of the cache:

North = (G-H) (A) degrees (C-E) (F+A) . (D) (B-H) (H+E)
West = (0) degrees (A) (F-G) . (G) (A+C+E) (B-H)
