Geocache Description:

Please be careful with children as some of the waypoints are close to water and there are some busy roads in the area.

This is our first multi and is set around the area of Matua.

I have made it pretty easy as I wanted this to be fun so the locals will probably know the locations of most of the waypoints by the description but it would be cool for you to do all of the questions as it is set up.

Ok for this one all you do is go to the first waypoint answer a question and do a bit of math’s (yeah I hate math’s to) this will give you the answer to the missing part of the next waypoint.

I look forward as always to your comments about this cache.

Waypoint # 1= S 37° 39.943 E 176° 08.335

This is the start of the trip through this great part of Tauranga and is the site of the old Otumoetai rail station and now has the community gardens within the same site.

When you come off the roundabout of Otumoetai and Ngatai roads the reserve is on the left as you go over the rail bridge on Otumoetai road.

This part of Otumoetai road (that turns into Leavers road) is the only road in and out of Matua so you can’t get to lost doing this multi.

Question # 1:

The year the rail station was opened?

Answer: 19?? – 959 = AAA

Waypoint # 2 = S 37° 39.966 E 176° 07.AAA

This location will bowl you over and on certain days it can be  packed with muggles.

Question # 2:

There is a gateway into the bowling club.

What year was it presented to the club?

Answer: 200? – 1233 = BBB

Waypoint # 3 = S 37° 40.172 E 176° 07.BBB

This is a great place to park and take a walk around the Matua salt marsh.

Question # 3:

How many bolts are on this sign post?

Answer: ?? + 970 = CCC

Waypoint # 4 = S 37° 40.202 E 176° 06.CCC

This is a good place for the kids to take a break and have a play.

This is a nice little playground for the locals to enjoy at this end of the peninsular and it can be very poplar on a nice day.

Question # 4:

How many ½ rounds are on both sides of the roof of the tower on the playground?

Answer: ?? + 280 = DDD

Waypoint # 5 = S 37° 39.820 E 176° 07.DDD

There I was thinking that this reserve was just part of Fergusson Park. I didn’t know that it has the same name as the road it is on.

It is a great walk through to Fergusson park.

Question # 5:

How many minutes’ walk is it to Fergusson park?

Answer: ?? + 481 = EEE

Waypoint # 6 = S 37° 39.716 E 176° 07.EEE

Ok you are about half way through this multi and I hope that I haven’t driven you bonkers.

You should still be in Matua (if you aren’t then one of us has got this completely wrong sorry) and be at Fergusson Park.

This has to be the jewel in the crown of Matua and has heaps of people that just drive on past all the other locations in the area to go here.

I could go on about the different activities and things to do here but I don’t have space on this listing to ramble on about this great space.

Take the time to have a look around at all the different stuff happening from time to time or simply relax and enjoy the ever changing views.

Question # 6:

On the side of the Otumoetai Sports and Recreational Club building is a sign that has the main groups that share this fantastic facility.

How many groups are there?

Answer: ?  + 992 = FFF

Waypoint # 7 = S 37° 39.653 E 176° 07.FFF

This is another reserve that that is doted around the Matua area.

You can walk from Fergusson park along the water front to Kulim park taking in this reserve and Beach road reserve along the way.

Question # 7:

How many minutes’ walk is it to Beach Road reserve?

Answer: ?? + 585 = GGG

Waypoint # 8 = S 37° 39.910 E 176° 07.GGG

You will be “Hooked on” this location (Hopefully as much as you are on this cache)

Question # 8:

There is a phone number on the sign.

Add up the numbers (less the area code)

Answer: ?+?+?+?+?+?+? = ?? + 774 = HHH

Waypoint # 9 = S 37° 39.936 E 176° 07.HHH

The road that you are on is Leavers road that has the Matua Hall, Matua school and over the road to the school in the valley is Matua Lifecare village.

Question # 9:

On this driveway at waypoint # 9 is a blue sign about a community hall. Use the phone number on this sign as you did for the last question to get the answer for waypoint # 10.

Answer: ?+?+?+?+?+?+? = ??  + 892 = III

Waypoint # 10 = S 37° 39.929 E 176° 07.III

This building is the heart of any community and use to have the old Scout den behind it.

There is a playground beside it and yes the kids would have probably already spotted this one on your journey.

Question # 10:

What number Leavers road is this building?

Answer: ??? + 312 = JJJ

Waypoint # 11 = S 37° 39.761 E 176° 08.JJJ

I have mentioned this reserve while you have been doing this cache.

Almost there only one more question to go so here it is.

Question # 11:

There is a large power box at this waypoint.

The number on the door (the one that faces the harbour) is? Just use the 3 digits and forget about the decimal point.

Answer: C4?? – 154 = KKK

Waypoint # 12 = S 37° 39.934 E 176° 08.KKK
