Amy Gillett was a dedicated sportswoman. She competed for Australia in rowing, before changing sports and started riding. Sadly Amy was killed while in Germany on a training ride.
This is a tribute cache. One of what I hope will be many more caches along the bikeway. Please add your own personal tribute along the bikeway.
One of those moments you never forget. Cathy Freeman. Womens 400m. Sydney Olympics 2000.
Gold.
Freeman was the home favorite for the 400 m title at Sydney. The hopes of Australians were resting on her shoulders. Freeman won the Olympic title in a time of 49.13 seconds. After the race, Freeman took a victory lap, carrying both the Aboriginal and Australian flags.
In 1992 Cathy Freeman was chosen to compete at the Barcelona Olympics. Although she did not make it to the finals of her event, the 400 metres, she had become the first Australian Aboriginal to represent Australia at an Olympics. At Atlanta in 1996 Cathy Freeman's time of 48.63 seconds was a personal best and she won a silver medal. Cathy had the honour of lighting the Olympic flame at the Sydney games.
