Het Gemaal aan de Markendaalseweg aan de Nieuwe Mark is één van de hoofdrioolgemalen van de stad. Het oorspronkelijke rioolgemaal stamt uit de jaren vijftig en is omstreeks 2008 vervangen. Vanwege de hoge stedenbouwkundige ambitie is een passend en bijzonder ontwerp gemaakt. Het Gemaal heeft een totale capaciteit van 3.600 m3/h. Het gemaal bevat 4 vijzels, een complete watergordijn-installatie, een verdeelcentrum van KPN en de pompbesturingsinstallatie. Het gemaal is ontworpen door Lode Havermans, dezelfde architect als van de brug over de Nieuwe Mark. Om voorbijgangers te kunnen laten zien wat het gemaal aan techniek in huis heeft zijn vensters aangebracht. Hierdoor kun je de geelgekleurde motoren en vijzels zien draaien. Extra bijzonder aan dit gemaal is het watergordijn dat rondom langs de wanden stroomt. Dit versterkt het thema water versterkt en voorkomt graffiti.

This building is one of the main sewage pumping stations of the city. The original pumping station dates from the fifties and was replaced around 2008.
Because of the high architectural ambition a special design was made. The pumping station has a total capacity of 3,600 m3/h. The pumping station contains 4 augers, a complete water curtain system, a pump control system and it’s also a distribution center of KPN (network provider). The pumping station was designed by Lode Havermans, the same architect who made the ‘ rusty’ bridge over the “Nieuwe Mark” (this is the canal you can see across the street. You can see the bridge when you look in the direction of the church). To show how the pumping technique works big windows were placed. This allows you to see yellow engines and augers running. More impressive is the water curtain that flows along the walls around. This reinforces the theme of water and prevents graffiti.
