Geocache Description:

Poppy's Langham loop is a series of 8 simple caches ranging from film cannisters to boxes with swaps. A nice family route to walk although does contain one stile and some uneven paths. Nettles will be a hazard depending on the time of year.

My first series of 8 caches so I’m hoping you will enjoy this walk around rural Langham, starting and finishing at St Mary’s Church. I have researched a little history for you to think about as you walk today.
As you walk down to Cache 1 the view as you leave the woods was painted by John Constable in 1812 titled ‘The valley of the Stour with Stratford St Mary in the distance.’
Onwards to cache 2 and on the way you will see a view of Langham Hall to your left which has records dating back to 1066 but it would have been much smaller than as the current building stands. An earthquake which caused damage to many Churches and houses in 1884, left nearby Valley House virtually ruined so Langham Hall retrieved the Oak panelling and stairways along with pieces of art and installed them, where they are still in place today.
Langham is also home to Essex and Suffolk water treatment works, which actually borders Boxted Village. This was built in 1928 to take water from the River Stour and on to Tiptree, Danbury and then into an underground reservoir at Herongate to supply all of South west Essex. Due to a drop in the water table over the recent years, a second borehole has been drilled this year to meet the increasing demands for fresh water.
If this circular walk is popular amongst cachers and their families I look forward to creating more in the area.

This cache will bring you to the road where there is a short walk to the next footpath across the road leading to the next cache. It is possible to stay on the field side and walk to the next footpath before crossing the road. Please take care with children and dogs. The footpath signs may be covered by the undrgrowth, I would recommend taking a map with paths marked.
