Feb. 3,1863 Union forces blasted the MS. River levee to enable fotilla to use Moon Lake and Yazoo Pass in a futile attemp to reach Vicksburg, by way of the Coldwater, Tallahatchie, and Yazoo Rivers. Federal forces were stopped by Confederate batteries at Fort Pemberton near Greenwood on March 11 - Arril 5, 1863.
