L'elefante della Valtrebbia / Valtrebbia's Elephant

La leggenda
Durante il proprio peregrinare, Annibale combattè anche in Valtrebbia. Quando si accampò, un elefante (Surus) si addormentò e si trasformò in roccia.

La verità
Nell'aprile 2009 il fotografo piacentino Paolo Pier Luigi Guglielmetti fotografò una montagna della Valtrebbia tra il paese di Cerignale ed il fiume Trebbia: si accorse che il profilo della montagna assomigliava moltissimo ad un elefante sdraiato a dormire. Da quel momento Guglielmetti fece diventare Surus non solo un'icona della Val Trebbia, ma un progetto per la valorizzazione di questo territorio.

La cache
Ground zero non è esattamente il punto in cui Surus si vede meglio, ma è a nostro avviso quello più sicuro dove parcheggiare (c'è posto per 3 auto che, data la tortuosità della strada che in questo tratto è a picco sul Trebbia, non è poco): se volete vedere Surus in tutta la sua bellezza, dopo esservi loggati potete procedere qualche centinaio di metri verso Piacenza.
La cache contiene solo il logbook, quindi portatevi una penna!

Le nostre cache
Dato che il Geocaching deve essere un divertimento per tutti, le nostre cache presentano una difficoltà crescente:
- se siete bravissimi, basatevi solo sulle coordinate e la vostra soddisfazione sarà notevole!
- se le coordinate non sono precisissime (può capitare), usate l'hint per un piccolo aiuto
- se non volete impazzire troppo oppure se non trovate la cache, guardate la foto spoiler ed il successo (a meno di babbani impiccioni o ladruncoli) è assicurato!

The legend
During his campaign in the Second Punic War, Hannibal Barca – the Carthaginian commander – faced the Roman army in the Battle of Trebbia. One of his elephants named Surus lay on the ground, fell asleep, and turned into rock.

The truth
In April 2009 photographer Paolo Pier Luigi Guglielmetti took a picture of a mountain view in Valtrebbia, between the village of Cerignale and the Trebbia river. Later he noticed the shape resembled a sleeping elephant and he had the idea to use Surus as a landmark, to attract tourists in this beautiful area.

The cache
Ground Zero is not the best scenic view point to admire Surus, but we think it’s the bets parking place. If you wish to see the elephant in all his mighty beauty, just walk a few hundred metres towards Piacenza.
