Many seasoned geocachers who have been around awhile will know these geocachers, some geocachers may have heard of them, and new geocachers will learn history about these important early New Jersey geocachers who have departed the State.
An interesting NJ geocaching fact; it seems when a NJ geocacher reaches and exceeds 10,000 cache finds they depart New Jersey, as with Stay floopy, IMSpider, and Mblatch. There are currently only two 10,000 plus cache finders in NJ.
1. Quoddy ~ Started caching 2/24/03 ~ One of the first well know NJ geocachers. Always caching with his famous dog "Quoddy" John left to upstate New York. You may have found one of his "Quoddy" buttons (below) in a cache, as one of the first signature items to appear in a cache.
2. Avroair ~ Started caching 8/26/03 ~ Co-founder of NNJC and a world famous Geocacher. Hosted many early NJ/NY events and designed many Geocoins. Mark left to Seattle, Washington where he continues to be an important part of the Geocaching community, also volunteers and works with Groundspeak .
3. Team Rampant Lion ~ Started caching 3/27/04 ~ NNJC Public Relations Officer and Founder of the "Caching through the snow" events, which continue today under NNJC. Kevin left to California. Geocachers are lucky to have collected the TRL early caching through the snow coins and signature buttons.
4. Stay Floopy AKA MortonFox ~ Started caching 4/4/01~ The first famous multi thousand NJ cache finder, when Po came to an event folks flocked to have their photo taken with him. Po left to Delaware, has an extensive photo gallery of his caching adventures.
5. IMSpider ~ Started caching 2/19/07 now simply a World legend ~ # 17 ranking in the entire world ! Say no more, now requires appearance fees to come to NNJC events and will pose for photos. John left to Delaware and is a very active in the entire USA geocaching community.
6. Mblatch ~ Started caching 2/19/07 ~ NNJC Officer, recently # 1 NJ cache finder, latest to leave NJ, but Marc will always be a good friend to everyone, who left to California where I'm sure will climb the ranks very quickly.
6. Skully & Mulder et al ~ Started caching 7/12/01 ~ One of NJ's first Geocachers, special mention, former President of NNJC, R.I.P Helmut.
I have cached with these early NJ geocachers and have some great memories. As a fun option, feel free to reflect in your logs if you have geocached with any of them, upload any old photo of them, perhaps have found their signature items, post your encounters or fun caching stories you may like to share.
To reach this cache follow the trail past the "Rocky Slope" cache as far as you can before your GPS has you leave the trail, be careful as the terrain may be a challenge at times of year depending on conditions.
