Geocache Description:

The SOLITARY FENCE POST is a traditional cache in the Southern Berg, on a well used hiking trail.

The SOLITARY FENCE POST, with Rhino Peak very hazy in the backround.

There are many quick and easy "drive-by" caches, and this one is a quick and easy "walk-by" cache. It is on the trail to two other caches by other owners, that have their own unique challenges, so a relatively easy cache on the way should boost your spirits. The SOLITARY FENCE POST was inspired by the now defunct and removed "Lonely Fence Post".

Using the waypoints provided will bring you to a parking area that makes the hike to the cache an easy 12 to 15 minutes. That is if you are able to travel across the private bridge, or causeway on route.  Please adhere to the private residents instructions concerning the bridge and if you cannot use it and are not prepared to cool your cache-mobile's tyres in the stream, then add another 10 odd minutes walking either way to the cache site. From climbing through the "game gate" at the fence follow the 4X4 trail and then proceed up the incline on the foot path. The walk has gentle undulations and is not too strenuous. Keep on until you reach the SOLITARY FENCE POST as per the co-ordinates. You are now at GZ and should find the cache quite easily. Do take care as there are a few lengths of old rusted barbed wire lying in the veld.

Please replace cache as you found it, so as not to attract attention of baboons that frequent this area.

Baboons might be attracted to the cache, especially if the sunlight reflects off parts of  the container. They could then ruin the site to get to it, and make off with the container.
No such muggles invited!
But if you are quiet you might glimpse the shy eland, rhebuck or duiker that are prevalent in the area. You might even have a rare sighting of a caracal.

Further along the same trail there is the entrance gate to the uKhahlamba Drakensberg National Park, where the trail is named "Three Pools Trail". Further along this trail is the Three pools cache, as well as the Valley of Pools cache.

ENJOY !
