Staðarsel was one of five sel's - mountain shed used in the summer time for dairy storage - of Sauðanes in the 19th century. A population of Staðarsel began as an outlying farm, parcalled of from Sauðanes and became later an indepentent farm. This area was farmed here from 1912 until 1962, for half a century. The desolate farm at the bench of Gunnlaugsá belongs to the municipality.
The peninsula Langanes Longpoint reaches about 40km towards north east at north east of Iceland. Here there are many desolate farms, most of which thread the coast line but some can be found among the tussocks in the typical heath-landscape of Iceland, Staðarsel is one of those. Here 5 different families lived consecutively for half a century until 50 years ago.

One can reach to here by hiking fairly easy track from Þórshöfn. One could even walk further to the desolate farm Hóll, additional 3km walk.
The best way to get to here is by driving the Miðholt street from Langanesvegur and pass by the Camping place, how far one can drive depends on the condition and capability of the car. good place to park the car is where the campers are recommended to park. It is easy to follow the track, approximately 3.5 km that is white as crushed shells of ocean quahog (l. Arctica islandica) have been used in trial to utilize byproducts of the shellfish that was processed for a while in Þórshöfn.
Gunnlaugsá runs just east of the farm and ends in the lake Sauðanesvatn
The cache is partly green like the grass the farm grew from and it folded back into in due time. Please place the cache back where you found it and leave the caching site as it was when you entered it, preferably in better condition. Njótið náttúrunnar og Ferðasjóðsins.
