Union Canal 6 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: As there's been no cache to find for a long time or has had no owner response for at least 30 days, I'm archiving it to keep it from showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Please note that if geocaches are archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance, they are not eligible to be Unarchived.

Geocache Description:

No need to enter private property!!  All caches are accessible from the road.  If you cannot find the cache DO NOT GO ON TO PRIVATE PROPERTY.  It is not hidden on private land.

This cache is part of a six cache series.  It highlights locations along the Union Canal in the Union Water Works  area in Lebanon County.  The Union Canal passed through Water Works.  The local church and fire company use Water Works in their name.  The canal cuts through the fields in the area.  Locks were used to raise and lower the canal boats as they made their way along the canal.  The Union Canal Tunnel is nearby.  It was an engineering feat of the day.  It was the summit of the canal.  The summit leaked badly.  A dam was constructed at the Union Water Works which supplied water to the summit.  Water was pumped from the Water Works through aqueduct to the summit to maintain water levels.  As you drive and hike though Lebanon County you can see remains of the canal era.    I grew up in the Water Works area.  The caches in this series take you near to the places where we played as children. If you look around you can see remains of the canal days.   All of these caches are found along the road.  There is no need to go onto private property.  All the caches are in guard rails.  If you do not find it in a guard rail, DO NOT ENTER PRIVATE PROPERTY!!.   All land near the caches is posted.  Please respect these postings.

If you continue to walk onto the bridge and look off toward the left, you can see houses built along the Swatara Creek.  These houses are built along the Tow Path.  An the end of the Tow path is another lock formation.
