Geocache Description:

Quick cache and dash which you can do by, car bicycle, or walking, but whichever one you choose look out for the pot holes. Set on the Dungeness estate and just off the road so that no plants are trodden down, please respect the speed limit and park carefullyas this a private estate which luckily for us we are able to visit.
The Lifeboat `Pride And Spirit` a Mersey Class boat was first bought here in 1992 and is due to leave us in 2013. The Pride and Spirit was also chosen to represent the RNLI in the Queen`s golden jubilee celebrations when the boat was hauled down the Mall in the procession. While this was going on the stations reserve boat was saving lives, two divers were rescued two miles off Dungeness point, they had got into trouble when their boat had broke down, they were brought safely ashore by the lifeboat crew. The RNLI function entirely on donations given by the public and their own fundraising. As you come onto the estate, just by the gates you will see the watering house, this was used to supply fresh water to shipping, and later trains, just before you reach the gate at the turn off from the dungeness rd you will see on your right a large woodpile, the buildings behind are the old coastguard cottages and to the rear you can see part of the old watchtower. Just before you reach the lifeboat station you will pass a large black `box`just as the road bends, this is an original Tan copper used for tanning the nets, overalls and aprons, this stopped the nets rotting away. If you dont sign the log book dont log it online.
