This "Gunsmoke Series" consists of five caches in honor of five of the prominent characters in the series. The TV series started on September 10, 1955 which is the date I hope to get these released. The information was gathered from Google, Wikipedia, and other Google sources.
The cache is located within a few feet of the parking spot.
The Gunsmoke Series on the radio ran from 1952 to 1961. In 1955 the television series started and ran for 20 seasons until 1975. It was the longest running prime time live action drama series with 635 episodes. The radio series aired from April 26, 1952 to June 18, 1961 with William Conrad as Marshall Matt Dillion. The TV series ran from September 10, 1955 to March 31, 1975. the first twelve season aired on Saturdays at 10:00, season thirteen to sixteen aired on Mondays at 8:00 and the last four seasons were Mondays at 8:00. Casting of James Arness as Marshall Matt Dillon in the TV series was recomended by John Wayne. "Doc" Adams played by Milburn Stone was in the first episode, he and arness were in the cast for the twenty year run of the program. Other long time cast members in the first episode were DEnnis Weaver as Chester Goode, and Amanda Blake as Miss Kitty Russell.
The TV series started with half-hour episodes from 1955 to 1961. From 1961 to 1966 it was an hour show in black-and-white. The last nine seasons were one hour long, but they wer in color. In 2002, the TV Guide ranked Gunsmoke as number 40 in the 50 greatest shows of all time. James Arness (Matt), Milburn Stone (Doc), Ken Curtis (Festus), Dennis Weaver (Chester, and Amanda Blake (Miss Kitty) are all inductees of the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. Dodge City Boot Hill Museum has a tribute to Gunsmoke including furnature from the show and an old TV tunned to the show.

He started with the program in 1955, under the recomendation of John Wayne (who had been considered for the part, but as a 'big screen star' he saw the fledgling TV show as a step down - thus he wqaqs not interested. ARness continued for the full 20 year run of the program which included 635 episodes.
A lot of the back stories of the character is left to the imagination . Matt supposidly spent his younger years in foster care and he was well versed on the Bible. He was a brawling cowboy until mentored by a caring lawman. Dillon became the Marshall of Dodge City, Kansas. Most of the episodes took place in Dodge City and the surrounding area during the settlement of the American West, which was during the thriving cattle days of the 1870's.
