Geocache Description:

This cache is located near a baseball field and park just off U.S. 1 in Pinebluff. Please park at the top of the hill overlooking the ball field (use parking coordinates provided below) and the nearby stairs will lead you down to the park and play area. The cache is a short walk along the perimeter of the fence surrounding the field. Great cache to bring the kids along and let them run around the playground or maybe play some catch on the diamond. Enjoy, and welcome to Pinebluff Athletic Park!

You are seeking a large ammo can stocked with goodies. You should be shielded from any muggles that might be in the area - even from players and spectators if there's a baseball game going on. If that's the case, then all you would really need to watch out for would be any overhead flying objects, should somebody get a hold of one and take it deep! Either way, have yourself a ball! (Baseball pun intended.)

The Pinebluff Athletic Park, competed around the summer of 2010, was a large undertaking by the town of Pinebluff to transform what was just a large empty grass field with no amenities into what is now a beautiful park, playground and baseball complex complete with stadium lights, dugouts, bleachers, a concession stand, and batting cages. Up until this park was established, the only athletics this field had seen was a loyal following of fans of the "beautiful game" that would gather here and play pick-up games of soccer on every Sunday during the spring and summer months.

The town had wanted, and been planning for some time, to build a complex here that the citizens of Pinebluff would be proud of, but had been unable to come up with the funding. Their persistence on the matter over time eventually paid off and they were awarded a grant to purchase and install the field lighting to get the project rolling. Finally, thanks in large part to a collaborative effort amongst the town, its board of commissioners, and donations of time and materials from local businesses and volunteers, their plans came to fruition.

Through their hard work and sweat the transformation from an empty field of grass and dust (mostly dust) into what is now Pinebluff Athletic Park was one that even an Iowa corn farmer would be proud of. While it may be a "field of dreams" now, that wasn't always the case, as this place originally was a dump - literally! Don't worry, it wasn't the kind for garbage and trash, but rather where the town and everybody came for years and dumped their yard clean-up and debris.

Since the opening of Pinebluff Athletic Park, whenever I passed by this spot I would hear a voice that whispered, "If you hide it, they will come." Now that I've obliged, it's up to you to "go the distance."
