This is one of 5 caches placed along the Lake Hayes Walkway. The 7.27km circuit can be walked or biked. The track is graded easy and will take 2-3 hours. However the caches are all near to one of the 5 track entry points so you don't have to go all the way! The well formed track provides outstanding views of the Lake and surrounding mountains plus the opportunity to observe water birds including the Australasian Crested Grebe.
Access this cache by walking 1 km from the Lake Hayes Showgrounds or from the Ladies Mile access point once you have completed "Drinks All Round." Boardwalks lead to a bridge across the outlet of Lake Hayes. The surrounding wetlands/Raupo swamp provide the Southern Crested Grebe with nesting sites. This duck sized waterbird has a long, thin neck with two large black tuffs on the crown of the head and a chesnut balck edged ruff on each side of the neck. The birds have enormous feet so are great swimmers. The adults can often be seen carrying their young on their backs.
You will need to bring a pencil or a pen. The container is usual and too narrow to take swaps. A spoiler pic show what you are looking for.
