Geocache Description:

This is a turtle container, that will hold trackables and small swaps. This cache is part of a small circular walk/wander around Wyresdale Park, it follows public footpaths and quiet country roads that takes in another cache - Monkey fun 2.

Please note parts of this walk are very boggy and muddy at the moment. Wyresdale Park sits on the westerly slopes of the Bowland fells, nestled in a dale that enjoys views over the Fylde plain, the hills of the Lake District and the waters of the Irish Sea. The Estate was founded in 1856 by Captain Ormerod, who commissioned architect E G Paley to design a grand country house with accompanying Home Farm and gardens. A lake was added in 1897 and during the early Twentieth Century the Estate was used to trial pioneering farming techniques. In the 1930’s Wyresdale Park was sold: the Hall and surrounding parkland being purchased by the Riddel Family and the farms and fell land by Shepherd Whewell. In 1967 the Hall was purchased by Shepherd Whewell’s grand children, James & John, reuniting the Estate into a coherent whole once more. It is currently being renovated and parts are open to the public.
