Geocache Description:

My grandpa is a Korean War Veteran and served in the US Army.  I have a special respect for veterans, and this park is an absolutely breathtaking tribute to our armed forces!  My grandpa was diagnosed with ALS a couple of years ago, and it has made me realize we are not promised tomorrow, and I need to show love and respect for the one who has served our country so valiantly.  This one’s for you, Pap!

Take your time looking around the park.  I sure did, and it brought tears to my eyes.  You will explore this park and find the coordinates for a cache hidden a couple of blocks from here.   Once you get your coordinates, there is another interesting memorial with some historical facts near the cache.  Be sure to check it out too!

A = Number of letters in the nickname of the sheriff who gifted the monument dedicated to all Hancock County Law Enforcement Officers who have served in our military.

B = At the entrance to the park, there are circular signs for each branch of service.  How many cannon balls appear on the left side of the Army sign?  Now take that number plus six.

C = Find the sign that starts with the following words: “May this place always remain a quiet and reverent place for people to gather, honor, reflect, remember and give thanks to those who served in both peace time and war…”  Find the last word on the sign and count the number of letters.  Take this number minus seven.

D = There is a bench with three branches of service (Army, Navy and Marines) represented with circular seals on the west side of the park.  Take the number of birds appearing in the Navy seal and add six to it.

E = Find the large statue in the back of the park and there is a Bible verse written on it from John 15: 1__.

F = There is a bench with a dedication to Vaughn “Skip” Brown.  What day was he killed in action in July ___, 1968.

G = All along the walk are bricks dedicated to veteran’s.  Find the “R” section.  Find a brick for Foster E Calhoun.  The first number that appears on his brick.

H = All along the walk are bricks dedicated to veteran’s.  Find the “B” section.  Find a brick for Carl Riddle.  The only number that appears on his brick.

I = On the very large tribute memorial to the Army in the south area of the park, there are a group of men holding guns, and they are silhouettes near the bottom of the memorial.  How many men are there?

J= On the same very large tribute memorial to the Army as in “I”, how many stars are on the tank?  Now take that number plus one.

K = All along the walk are bricks dedicated to veteran’s.  Find the “H” section.  Find a brick for Edward Harrell Sr.  The last number that appears on his brick.
