Straddling Berks & Lebanon Counties, North American Refractories - simply known locally as "The Brick Plant" - shut down the kilns & closed it's doors around 2000. At one time, as many as 400+ residents of the Newmanstown & Womelsdorf areas were employed here. While much of the original facility has been destroyed, some of it remains & is currently used for warehousing by a building supply distributor.
