Swag (Central Otago) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

wandercat: visited the ccache site in resonse to DNF log that reported people campng in the area and stuffing rubbish into likely hiding spots. We could find no sign of the cache container. DoC is permitting self contained camper vans to stay up to two nights at GZ. Suddenly a great spot has becaome a very bad choice. Wandercat will rethink the hide as the concept was a poluar one.

Geocache Description:

This is one of five caches placed along the Lake Hayes Walkway.  The 7.27km circuit can be walked or cycled however all caches are placed near entry/exitpoints.  If you choose to go all the way around it will take 2-3 hours.  Access this cache at the North Lakes Hayes Picnic Area from the Arrowtown-Lake Hayes Road.  This picnic area is extremely popular all year around but the cache is placed in the least popular area.

The Giant Canada Goose can be observed in the vicinity of the picnic area.  The "honker" likes eating grass and clover.  The Geese are descendants of birds introduced between 1905 and 1920.  Their range is restricted to the South Island.

The cache is concealed inside a Willow but which one.....there are hundreds.  It is hidden above ground level and maybe difficult to see.  Help is at hand.  Use it.
