Geocache Description:

The "Gunsmoke Series" consists fo five caches in honor of five of the prominent characters in the series. The TV series started on September 10, 1955 (which is the date I hope to get these release on). the information was gathered from Google, Wikipedia, and other Google sources.

The cache is located with in a few feet of the parking spot.

The Gunsmoke Series on the radio ran from 1952 to 1961. In 1955 the television series started and ran for 20 seasons to 1975. It is the longest running prime time live action drama series with 635 episodes. The radio series aired from April 26, 1952 to June 18, 1961 with William Conrad as Marshall Matt Dillion. The TV series ran from September 10, 1955 to March 31, 1975. The first twelve seasons aired on Saturdays at 10:00, seasons thirteen to sixteen aired on Mondays at 7:30, the last four seasons were on Mondays at 8:00. Casting of James Arness as Marshall Matt Dillion was recommended by John Wayne. "Doc" Adams played by Milburn Stone was on the first episode, he and Arness were cast for the twenty year run of the program. Other long time cast members in the first episode were Dennis Weaver as Chester Goode, and Amanda Blake as Miss Kitty Russsell.
The TV series started with half-hour episodes from 1955 to 1961. From 1961 to 1966 it was an hour show in black-and-white. The last nine seasons were one hour long, but were in color. In 2002 the TV Guide ranked Gunsmoke as number 40 in the top 50 greatest shows of all time. James Arness (Matt), Milburn Stone (Doc), Ken Curtis (Festus), Dennis Weaver (Chester) and Amanda Blake (Miss Kitty) are all inductees of the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. Dodge City Boot Hill Museum has a tribute to Gunsmoke including furnature from the show and an old TV tuned in to the show.

Miss Kitty Russell, as played by Amanda Blake (02/20/29 to 08/16/89).
"Miss Kitty" Russell was born in New Orleans and reared by a flashy foster mother (who once visited Dodge). She apparently had no other living family. She was a half owner of the "Long Branch Saloon" with Bill Pence, who she later bought out his half and was full owner. Miss Kitty was written out of the script in 1974.

Permission for these caches had been granted by the County Commissioners.
