Geocache Description:

The tenth in a set of a dozen of caches in the St. Charles area. The series is based off the Carcassonne game and its expansions. (If you're going to attempt the whole set, read carefully below.)

This cache is noting a historical gem in St. Charles. While the city has not had any plagues, it was the host to Illinois' first ever medical college, Franklin Medical College. The school was located at 102 E. Main Street (a restaurant at present). The school was founded in 1842 by Dr. George Richards. The school had class sizes around 15-20 students, and had a decent doctoral staff for anatomy, surgery, pharmacy, and obstetrics. Unfortunately, tragedy struck only 7 years into the school's program.

One thing the school did lack (as did many schools of the time) was cadavers for research/practice, and some students took up the unsavory practice of graverobbing to meet this need. In 1849 this culminated in disaster when John Rood and George Richards Jr. took the body of deceased Sycamore resident Mrs. George Kenyon. Sycamore residents discovered this, and stormed Dr. Richards' house. John Rood was killed and Dr. Richards wounded. Details conflict if the students appeased the mob by telling them were the body was, or if a local medium divined its location, but Mrs. Kenyon was returned to her resting place, and Franklin Medical School closed as a result. It did, however, compel Illinois to pass laws to make it easier for both schools and students to get cadavers ethically.

This cache is hidden on the same block as where the Franklin Medical School once functioned. The GPSr would not settle down, so Google Maps was used as an approximation. As this can be off, a hint is provided. BYOP.

One final note: Each cache in this set will have a letter and/or number taped to the inside of the cache. These will tie-in to the final puzzle. If you're going to attempt the whole set in the long run, please write the letter/number down.

Congrats to GeoGil on the FTF!
