The cache is located by St Thomas Chapel on the 'A4' a grade 1 listed building and one of the oldest in West Berkshire. The Bluecoat school was originally built as a chapel in about 1303/4 and was used for worship until about 1550.Following the dissolution of the Monasteries the chapel fell into disrepair and after a long period of neglect the chapel was occupied as the Winchcombe Charity School from 1707-30 and as a Bluecoat School from 1794-1914. Since then it has had several functions including a cooking depot for school meals, classrooms for the Kennet School, Antiques Centre and now has passed into the hands of a charitable trust for public use.
