Geocache Description:

Typical mint tin hide, painted. BYOP. Not wheelchair or stroller accessible. Park hours 5 am to 10 pm. Take care: the last few steps may be slippery from leaf fall, even when dry. No PO at GZ when cache was placed, but it is common in the area.

Effective 8/3/2016: You must SIGN the log. If you do not sign or stamp the log, you have not found it and your log will be deleted. Bring an implement to write with!

After a short hike up the Belgum Trail, you arrive at a strange place and you ask, “How did these palm trees get here?” This was once the site of the Grande Vista Sanitarium founded by Dr. Hendrik Belgum in 1914 in the stucco mansion built earlier by Jacob M. Tewksbury for his daughter. All that’s left are the few palm trees, a bit of the old orchard, some fragments of the foundation, and some scattered relics like what you will find here. A short distance farther up the trail you will find a sign that describes the history of the site with pictures.
